GPT for Sheets™ is an AI add-on for Google Sheets™ and Docs™. It brings large language models into your spreadsheet as AI formulas and an AI chat agent, so you can write, translate, classify, summarize, enrich and analyze data in bulk, row by row, without copying text between tabs.
No sign-up required. Free trial credits included. No API key needed to start. Your spreadsheet data is not stored.
POPULAR USE CASES
• Lead lists: find business emails for company domains, pull places from Google Maps™ and enrich every row with company details.
• Product catalogs: write product titles and descriptions for hundreds of items, then translate them into other languages.
• Customer feedback: run sentiment analysis on reviews, surveys and support tickets, and classify them into your own categories.
• SEO: generate keyword ideas, meta titles and descriptions, and blog drafts for a list of keywords.
• Data cleanup: normalize names and addresses, split full names, and extract emails, phone numbers or prices from free text.
• Marketing: write ad copy, social media posts and email subject lines in bulk.
AI FORMULAS FOR GOOGLE SHEETS™
Use =GPT("Write a product title for", A2) like any other Google Sheets™ formula and fill it down a column. Thousands of rows are processed in one pass, and you can replace the formulas with static values in one click when you are done.
• =GPT_TRANSLATE() translates text into the language you choose.
• =GPT_SUMMARIZE() shortens long text to a few sentences or bullet points.
• =GPT_CLASSIFY() and =GPT_TAG() sort text into your own categories or add tags.
• =GPT_EXTRACT() pulls names, emails, prices or other details out of free text.
• =GPT_FORMAT(), =GPT_SPLIT(), =GPT_LIST() and =GPT_TABLE() clean, split and restructure data.
• =GPT_FILL() learns a pattern from a few examples and applies it to the remaining rows.
CHOOSE THE AI MODEL FOR EACH TASK
Every formula can use a different model, so you can compare answers side by side and keep the one that works best: =GPT() runs OpenAI models, =GEMINI() runs Gemini™ and =CLAUDE() runs Claude™. Other providers work with your own API key. Start with the included credits or connect your own keys at any time.
AI CHAT AGENT FOR YOUR SPREADSHEET
Open the AI chat in the sidebar and ask, for example, "Which region had the highest sales last quarter?" or "Find duplicate emails in column C and highlight them." The AI assistant reads the rows you select, explains what it found and proposes the changes. You review the plan, apply it in one click and can undo it.
WEB RESEARCH AND DATA ENRICHMENT
• =GPT_WEB_SEARCH() answers a prompt with current information from the web.
• =SERP() lists the search results for a query.
• =WEB_TITLE(), =WEB_DESCRIPTION() and =WEB_HEADINGS() read the title, meta description and headings of any page.
• Find and verify business emails for a company domain, and pull business details from Google Maps™ places, to enrich lead lists right in Google Sheets™.
SEO AND CONTENT AT SCALE
=SEO_BLOG() and =SEO_STRATEGY() turn a list of keywords into article drafts and content plans, and keyword functions return keyword ideas and related keywords for a topic.
IMAGES AND VISION
=GPT_CREATE_IMAGE() generates an image from a text prompt, and =GPT_VISION() describes an image or reads the text in it.
CONNECT YOUR OTHER TOOLS
=API() calls a REST API directly from a cell, so you can pull data into the sheet or send AI results to your own services.
GOOGLE DOCS™, SLIDES™ AND FORMS™
The same add-on also works in Google Docs™ (write and rewrite articles, product descriptions and summaries in 14 tones and 35+ languages), Google Slides™ (create a presentation from a topic or your notes) and Google Forms™ (generate quiz and survey questions from a topic or text).
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you store my spreadsheet data?

Do I need an API key?
No. Free trial credits are included. You can connect your own API keys at any time.
